Western University, Nursing & FIMS Building
V&R was the mechanical and electrical consulting engineers for the new Academic Building at Western University. The building is 138,300 gross square feet, located at the southwest corner of Lambton and Huron Drives. The building will provide the necessary space for The Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing and the Faculty of Information and Media Studies (including provisions for possible future expansion of the two units), and state-of-the-art general university instructional facilities.
The Nursing space includes flexible instructional spaces, clinical training laboratories, faculty/staff offices, research spaces, and student spaces. The FIMS space is comprised of computer laboratories, media studies studios, library science facilities, faculty/staff offices, research/scholarship spaces, and student spaces. The building design/style is similar to the recently completed Western Centre for Public Health and Family Medicine facility at the Westminster site. Exterior cladding treatment pays respect to the neighbouring Arthur and Sonia Labatt Health Sciences Building, and the prominent location that this site provides.
The building was designed to meet LEED Silver Certification.
