Fanshawe College, Centre for Applied Transportation Technologies Building
The Fanshawe College Centre for Applied Transportation Technology (CATT) was a new, 150,000 SF, academic building built around the salvaged portions of an existing factory building. The facility replaces the aging C Building functions on the main campus. It includes large teaching shops for automotive repair, auto body repair, heavy duty equipment, large trucks, and agricultural equipment shops.
The building also houses classrooms, offices, a cafeteria, a homework lab, and student lounge spaces. Numerous energy saving features were built into the project including rainwater collection and reuse, solar water heating, active sun-tracking skylights to augment shop lighting, a “green” vegetated roof, and daylight/occupancy sensors which control lighting and HVAC loads to save energy.
