Carleton University, Glengarry House Renovations
Glengarry residence was first opened in 1969, and since 2016 has undergone phased renovations. Work has been undertaken to continually enhance different aspects of the building. Glengarry is home to 614 students, split between 10 floors of unique and engaging communities. The rooms are a combination of single and double rooms, as well as pods. In the first year, common and individual washrooms were upgraded. In the second year the cooling and electrical infrastructure was upgraded.
Mechanical work focused on feasibility of completing the scope within a specific time frame to ensure no disruption to students. Sections of the building were completed during the summer, to minimize the disruption. Close coordination with the base building conditions and controls contractor was necessary to implement the required revisions.
Electrically, Vanderwesten & Rutherford Associates Inc. provided options for infrastructure replacement that fit the needs of the operations and the budget allocated each year. Lighting and plumbing upgrades enhanced the student experience in this first year residence.
V&R coordinated closely with key stakeholders such as Facilities & Maintenance Personnel, and the Housing Department during both design and construction in order to help the project meet the critical time lines.
